Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is one of the less frequented national parks in northern Tanzania. Most people skip this park in order to hurry off to the better known Serengeti. This mentality however is mistaken, due to the striking abundance of the area. For those who wish to have a warm-up to Kilimanjaro or who seek a solitary trek, expeditions on little or big Meru provide an excellent experience. Mt. Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania (4566 meters) and affords wonder views of the plains below, the Rift Valley, not to mention the imposing mound of Kilimanjaro above.
The park also contains Mgurdoto Crater and Momella lakes where a great variety of birds can be seen. In addition the area affords sightings of bigger animals such as elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, baboons, etc. The migration of birds is best viewed from September to April.
Accommodation on Mt. Meru is in tents; on safari the best accommodation is in the Momella Lodge.
